I live in Az and Im looking to plant some really pretty flowers that can survive heat and sun and that will grow all year around. Can someone point me to a website that shows different styles and colors? I hate cactus%26#039;s and anything with stickers I have a daughter and a dog!
FlowersBirthday FlowersSympathy FlowersPretty much any succulent plant will do well... i would suggest Mesembryanthemum and Portulaca: both enjoy hot dry sandy conditions and both have very spectacular flowers.
if you want shrubs, then try palms (date palm always looks good) or pomegranate, which likes dry conditions and has beautiful red trumpet flowers, followed of course by fruit.
Don%26#039;t know any website guides but any local nursery of landscaper will be able to advise you.
Reply:The key to having plants in hot environments is an irragation system. This is a must. You don%26#039;t want to be out in your yard all the time watering. When putting in a landscape in hot climates, the plants need water.
Here are some plants that do well in the South.
Crype Myertels (pink)
Lirope
darf nandina%26#039;s
compacta bush
bulbs
you can add any flowers as long as they get water.
Underground automatic water systems are the way to go.
Reply:I can%26#039;t give you a website right now. But, go to your local Plant Nursery. And they would be Glad to tell you.
Reply:I haven%26#039;t had much luck with many types of flowers but I have had luck with herbs especially Sweet Basil, Parsley, Oregano and Tomatoes plants and JalapeƱo Pepper Plants. I have also noticed the the creatures don%26#039;t like to munch on those types of plants either. I also have a dog so I dislike cactus also - since they love to stick on my dogs paws :( Well this helps you out. If you end up finding any good plants for AZ please let me know.
